WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS?

Repairs are services that are required or necessary when something on your vehicle is not working properly or may have worn to the point where a replacement is required to maintain the performance of your vehicle.

Maintenance is the routinely scheduled services, inspections and part replacements that your vehicle manufacturer recommends based on the age or mileage of your vehicle. Getting these services at the scheduled time will eliminate the parts malfunctioning at the worst time.

If you perform the scheduled maintenance for your vehicle or replace worn parts as needed then you are also doing preventive maintenance which will decrease your chances of a breakdown.

The schedule for performing these maintenance services varies from vehicle to vehicle. You will find the schedule for your vehicle in your owner's manual. Following this schedule will keep you off the shoulder of the road and on to your destination every time. Know your car. If you hear noises that weren't there before, or notice an oil spot in your parking space, then preventive maintenance is called for. Before running to the shop , you can do your own preventive maintenance. First check all your fluids. Do Not open your radiator cap when the car has been run in the last hour! Be sure to check your transmission fluid with your car warm and while it is running. Make sure all belts are on the pullys and not damaged. Next, check and fill your tire pressure as needed. Most tire pressure guidelines for your car are in a door jam or in the glovebox. Even most spontaneous flats are preventable. As an added safety measure, check all your lights to include your brake lights. At least now you know the basics are covered and the car is safe to drive to the shop.
